You would think that mashing Aaliyah’s classic ‘Are You That Somebody?’ would be sacrilegious but this mashup with Gotye’s horribly infectious song ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ is absolute genius. Taking two hits from two distinct decades of music, MadMixMustang has given us a mix that brings us memories from the golden years of R&B and makes us cuss because of how damn good the chorus is in Gotye’s legendary breakup song. Instant classic mashup. Download from his website here.
Shout out to papa DJ Keeno for showing me this. I know everyone is tired of remixes of ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ but this is exceptionally gnarly. Those snares make me think that Diplo has taken over the track, but instead of turning into a mess of noise and dissonance, the song gets gritty like an 8-bit track. It’s fun, original, and SO fresh. F-f-f-f-free download y’all!
If you are one of the two people who have been reading my blog since last semester, you’ll know I posted ‘Somebody I Used to Know’ in October, credits going to my friend Lauren. I am watching the SNL episode on which Gotye performed and I am so happy that their second song was ‘Eyes Wide Open,’ which has been out for longer. I discovered the song in the Spring of 2011 and had it on repeat for a while. The SNL performance was well done, though didn’t have the same amount of richness as his songs usually have, but that’s expected of an SNL execution. Anyways, just reposting one of my favorite Gotye songs and glad to see the band have come so far since I first heard of them.
